Founded in 2010, GOLAN PICTURES is a noted media production house based in Thimphu, Bhutan. Originally known as Rabbit in the Twilight Productions, It has grown into a strength in Bhutanese storytelling—blending art, creativity, and social consciousness.

At GOLAN PICTURES, we bring stories that inspire, challenge, and connect. With noted films like GAWA… The Other Side of the Moon and THIMPHU, we continue to push the boundaries of Bhutanese cinema, making our presence felt both locally and globally. We are also building a strong digital footprint across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and our soon-to-launch YouTube channel.

We are also passionate about shaping the future of Bhutanese storytelling. Through initiatives like Art for People and the National Script Development Grant, we empower emerging voices, mentor new talents, and preserve, promote, and enhance narratives that build reference for future generations.
CREATOR
Chand Kr. Rai (R.C.)

A writer, director, and creative producer based in Thimphu, Bhutan, known for his creative socially conscious storytelling. His debut feature Gawa: The Other Side of the Moon broke ground as the first film endorsed by Bhutan’s Ministry of Education and was widely decentralized across schools and communities. Honored by Her Majesty Gyalyum Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck for his contributions to women and children through cinema, Chand’s second film Thimphu gained international recognition, screening at nine global festivals and earning a special mention at the 15th Pune International Film Festival.

A trailblazer in Bhutanese cinema, he launched the country’s first National Script Development Grant and now leads the Art for People initiative to nurture creative talent. Currently, he is in pre-production for his third feature, Yaan… (If…), while continuing to write and direct films, documentaries, and commissioned work for national and international organizations.

Program History and Impact
An animation that won an award at the Beskop Tsechu, the first independent Bhutanese film festival held in Oct 2011. It portrays the stark reality of global warming through a Bhutanese perspective.
Program Highlights
Participants are guided by performing arts experts from around the world. A comprehensive introduction to various aspects of performing arts, with a core focus on filmmaking. By its sixth year, the program had empowered around 950 youths and school drop-outs, fostering their talents and providing meaningful engagement.

Development Grant
The National Script Development Grant, an initiative by Golan Pictures, aims to support aspiring Bhutanese screenwriters by offering them the tools and mentorship needed to bring original stories to life, enhancing the quality of Bhutanese cinema.
